“Everything You Know About Jesus Is Wrong” is an engaging and entertaining read. Devoll’s knowledge and understanding of scripture, the ancient languages, words, and phrases is an eye opening experience for someone like me who has struggled sometimes understanding Scripture. His self deprecating humor, intelligent observations and use of metaphor add to the story. This book helped to better show me Jesus the human who also just happened to be God.
Well done good and faithful servant!

I’ve been a believer for nearly 52 years, and thought that I’ve heard it all as far as apologetics, theology, etc. But I found Jeff’s book both exciting and intriguing. It is great for both skeptics, and for seasoned Christians who a little blurry eyed over all the stuff that’s out there. I recommend it.

Wow!!!! What a new point of view into understanding who Jesus was/is all about and what it means to truly follow and commit your life to becoming more like Him. This book definitely discusses the hard questions of navigating various difficult life scenarios and how to build your faith to a place that allows you to walk through those life scenarios with the love, grace, patience, and the kind of peace that ONLY God offers. Such a great book!

About the Book

Everything You Know About Jesus Is Wrong challenges the assumptions that culture, politics, and even religion have layered onto the life and message of Jesus. This book takes you back to the first-century world-its history, language, and customs-to rediscover Jesus as His earliest followers knew Him.

Through fresh insights and practical application, you’ll see how understanding Jesus in His original context transforms the way we live today. This isn’t about tearing down faith; it’s about reclaiming the authentic Jesus-free from distortion-so His words and actions can speak with clarity and power in our modern world.

Whether you’re a lifelong believer, a skeptic, or someone searching for truth, this book will invite you to think deeply, challenge assumptions, and encounter Jesus as He truly is.

Is everything you know about Jesus wrong? Maybe not, but you know something is wrong.

You always have. The rituals, the rules, the requirements – they feel worlds apart from the Jesus you encounter in the gospels.

Ancient historians, renaissance painters, self- interested preachers and modern screenwriters have shaped our image of Him. The progressives, conservatives, moderates and anarchists have tried to co-opt him. The religious and the irreligious alike have wielded His name to legitimize their pursuit of power.

And you? You’re left with the ache of distance-the emptiness that whispers, there must be more.
Come. Discover the real Jesus. He calls. He waits.

That’s what Everything you Know About Jesus Is Wrong sets out to do. Take you on a journey where the real Jesus awaits you.

INTRODUCTION: JOSH

What if Jesus didn’t look or sound anything like the version you grew up with? What if he was short, olive‑skinned, calloused‑handed, and spoke with a country accent? What if he wasn’t the serene figure from Renaissance paintings… but a poor construction worker who camped on roadsides, challenged systems, and made the powerful furious? In this episode, I introduce you to Josh — a historically grounded portrait of Jesus stripped of religious varnish, political appropriation, and cultural sentimentality. This isn’t revisionism. Everything in this chapter comes straight from the Gospel accounts, without the layers we’ve added over centuries.

OYSTERS

Jesus wasn’t killed for being nice. He wasn’t executed because he preached love, kindness, or inspirational quotes. He was killed because he disrupted the system, confronted corruption, broke rules, offended the powerful, and refused to play along with anyone’s expectations. In this chapter, we explore the strangeness, the edginess, and the uncomfortable reality of the real Jesus — not the softened, sanitized version many of us were handed.
